Designer Design is my Passion. Art is my Passion.
From an early age I have enjoyed art, drawing race cars and cartoons in grade school, excelling in art classes in high school and advancing to studying art in college. I graduated from the University of Kansas with a BFA in Visual Communication, learning about what it is to be a Graphic Designer and using my talent to hone my design eye and skills in order to have a career as a Graphic Designer. The last 18 years I have spent in the corporate world doing design, marketing and web development but not doing as much design as I had initially thought I would be doing. I kept alive my passion for art by occasionally painting and doing freelance design jobs. And then COVID-19 hit and I was furloughed and eventually laid off because of the pandemic. The last few months I have used this recent circumstance as a blessing and an opportunity and have been painting again and doing freelance design projects and other art projects, revitalizing my love and my passion for design. My art and design is a assortment of painting using various mediums, from acrylic to oil to resin to mixed-media, traditional graphic design, t-shirt design, sculpture and other design projects. Starting from an initial idea to the finished project my art is a journey. The idea transforms itself, going through different phases, mixing colors and shapes, using brushstrokes and textures until my art is completed into a finished piece. Ranging from abstract to realistic to impressionistic to modern, my art is influenced by the greats of Van Gogh, Monet, Matisse, Picasso and Pollock. My brushstrokes are vigorous and intentional in order to define a space, a shape, a texture or feeling. The hardest part for me is being able to step away from a completed project, knowing that it could truly never be finished. |
